Communicative Competence

Learning a new language is more than memorizing sets of vocabulary words and grammar rules. To become truly competent, learners must also develop pragmatic awareness of the culture behind the new language, and begin to understand how their own culture influences their communication style. My current research focuses on developing extended speaking skills through corrective feedback and explicit pragmatic instruction.
